My first post of my Blog "Here Comes Sunshine"
About a month and a half ago my best friend asked if I wanted to go to Brazil. I said, "Sure if someone pays for it!" I applied for the Rotary Foundation Group Study Exchange and next thing I know I am going to Brazil.
THE GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE (GSE)
The Exchange is scheduled to leave on May 15th, 2012 and I have
the unique opportunity to represent the United States, the State of
Oklahoma, and the two cities of Edmond and Guthrie. The Group Study
Exchange (GSE) is an educational program of The Rotary Foundation
wherein Rotary districts in different countries are paired to send and
receive professional study groups to travel for four to six weeks,
staying in homes of Rotarians. The GSE program is a unique cultural and
vocational exchange opportunity for young professional and leadership
skills among young adults so that they can address the needs of their
communities and an increasingly global workplace.
The purpose of the GSE program is to promote international
understanding and goodwill through person to person contact. As a
participant I will follow an extensive and rigorous schedule of
international travel and team activities. Vocational visits will
provide opportunities to observe my profession in another country. This
experience will allow me to study the country of Brazil and the state
of Santa Catarina, and its people, language, and institutions through
different cultural experiences. While in Brazil, our team will give 15
to 20 club presentations about our team and the state of Oklahoma to
Rotary clubs in Santa Catarina, as well as other groups, 10 to 15 formal
visits and social events, 2 to 3 days at the district conference, 3 to 4
hours per day of cultural and site tours and 3 to 4 hours per day with
host families.
