PMS Designs

A former student of mine makes very cool leather bracelets.  I wanted to give the people who will be hosting me something locally made.  PMS Designs has done just that. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

GSE BRAZIL 2012

GSE BRAZIL 2012: I will be attending the Group Study Exchange to Brazil. A great way for a Social Studies teacher to get Professional Development.
So over the past few weeks I have adjusted my schedule to learn everything Brazilian...language and food.

Language:
1. I listen to the Pimsluer Method Brazilian Portuguese audio CDs in the car on the way to work and on the way home. Most of you know that is a challenge for me. I love music and car is the only place I can sing without someone telling me to stop. But one must do what one must do in order to achieve something great.
2.I have started the Rosetta Stone in the evenings. The program is great but the kids always need something and little gets done.
3. Started carrying and using flash cards of things I am going to be saying.

Food:
1. Weekly Brazilian food night. Has been real fun learning about all the MEAT I will be eating.
2. Cafe do Brazil. Went with some great friends and family for a wonderful evening. Tried things I normally would eat.
3. Candy. My wonderful mother made Brigaderios for me. Had one and the family ate the rest before I could blink. Going to make more for people who help on Peerbackers.

GSE BRAZIL 2012

My first post of my Blog "Here Comes Sunshine"

About a month and a half ago my best friend asked if I wanted to go to Brazil.  I said, "Sure if someone pays for it!"  I applied for the Rotary Foundation Group Study Exchange and next thing I know I am going to Brazil.

THE GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE (GSE)
The Exchange is scheduled to leave on May 15th, 2012 and I have the unique opportunity to represent the United States, the State of Oklahoma, and the two cities of Edmond and Guthrie. The Group Study Exchange (GSE) is an educational program of The Rotary Foundation wherein Rotary districts in different countries are paired to send and receive professional study groups to travel for four to six weeks, staying in homes of Rotarians.  The GSE program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young professional and leadership skills among young adults so that they can address the needs of their communities and an increasingly global workplace.
The purpose of the GSE program is to promote international understanding and goodwill through person  to person contact.  As a participant I will follow an extensive and rigorous schedule of international travel and team activities.  Vocational visits will provide opportunities to observe my profession in another country.  This experience will allow me to study the country of Brazil and the state of Santa Catarina, and its people, language, and institutions through different cultural experiences.  While in Brazil, our team will give 15 to 20 club presentations about our team and the state of Oklahoma to Rotary clubs in Santa Catarina, as well as other groups, 10 to 15 formal visits and social events, 2 to 3 days at the district conference, 3 to 4 hours per day of cultural and site tours and 3 to 4 hours per day with host families.
